CTEMS Introduces Advanced Treatment for Life‑Threatening Low Blood Pressure

On April 6, Cranberry Township EMS began carrying a new medication called norepinephrine on our ambulances.

This medication helps patients whose blood pressure drops dangerously low due to serious medical emergencies such as severe infections, major injuries, or spinal trauma. Low blood pressure can prevent vital organs, like the brain, heart, and kidneys, from getting the blood and oxygen they need. Norepinephrine helps by gently tightening blood vessels, raising blood pressure, and improving blood flow to these critical organs.

One of the reasons norepinephrine is important is that it works quickly and safely. Compared to older medications, it is less likely to cause dangerous heart rhythm problems, making it a more reliable choice during emergencies.

EMS crews can carefully adjust the medication while transporting a patient to the hospital, helping stabilize them sooner instead of waiting until arrival. National emergency and critical‑care guidelines recognize norepinephrine as a preferred treatment for certain life‑threatening conditions.

By adding this medication to our ambulance units, Cranberry Township EMS is bringing hospital‑level care directly to the scene, improving patient stability, and giving our residents the best possible chance for positive outcomes during medical emergencies.
